If you want to have great fishing trip in Mexico, you must choose the right bass lure. Choosing the wrong ones can ruin your whole trip, especially if there is not a place nearby where you can find better ones. Here I want to share with you the lures you must include if you are planning to go fishing in Mexico.

Plastic worms. This is a classic bass lure that works all around the World, an evolution of the worms used in previous generations. Nowadays you can find them in different sizes, colors and styles. When I go bass fishing in Mexico, I always make sure to include plenty of these, as big basses just love them. Mix sizes, colors, experiment and have fun. A neat trick with them is to add a little weight to the worm to control it when luring the bass.

Spinnerbaits. These lures are very attractive to bass and they work in any speed or depth. I used some of these on my recent trip to Lake Baccarac, and I really can’t complain, they are just very versatile and can be used in different situations. Test different colors depending on the lake you are.

Swimbaits. These lures are used mostly by trophy bass fishing anglers. Why? They are perfect to catch the really big boys on the lake. They look like fishes, usually a minnow. Be sure to pack some of them in case you want to catch record-breaking bass.

Crankbaits. What can I say? They are classic, versatile and a must-have in any bass fishing trip. These baits have the appearance of little fishes, or in the eyes of bass, delicious food!

Bass jig. I always made sure to include these baits on my tackle box because they are perfect to catch bass around ledges and rock piles. Very easy to use and to find, and they come in a variety of styles and sizes. Like the rest of baits, mix them to accommodate your needs in the lake.

Well, these are my picks of bass fishing lures to carry to your trip. Add them to your tackle box and you won’t have any lure problem in the middle of your Mexico fishing trip.

One of the most popular destinations for Mexico bass fishing trips has to be Lake Baccarac. The 25 miles long and 5 miles wide lake was stocked with a strain of Florida largemouth bass back in the year 1978, and since then it has remained as one of the favorite lakes to catch some big bass! This is a trophy largemouth bass fishing lake and is considered one of the best of its kind in the entire World.

The lake at full pool, covers an area of 30,000 acres and this is an area where you will definitely catch some big fishes! As a matter of fact the lake record bass was recorded in the year 1993, when Bruce Knutson caught a fish weighing 19.10 pounds, and you should add the fact that many local anglers claim to have caught fish of well over 20 pounds! The frequency of catches of 10-13 lb bass has been unbelievable, even on specialized bass fishing TV show was demonstrated how the host could catch bass weighing over 10 lbs on each trip! These big fishes have been caught almost daily with 17 pounders appearing commonly too.

The season for bass fishing in Lake Baccarac starts in November and ends in April. You can reach the lake from an old mining town named Bacubirito. After 20 minutes via plane you’ll be ready to enjoy your stage on Lake Baccarac Lodge. This lodge has been recently constructed to provide anglers the best accommodation during the trip, you can expect first class services for your Mexico bass fishing adventure! Currently, the lodge has space for 32 anglers; besides providing great accommodations, it also counts with new 18-foot Crestliner boats and a staff of selected guides with years of experience in the lake. They’ll share with you the best secrets to make the most out of Lake Baccarac!

The lodge is also surrounded by a beautiful scenery, the Sierra Madre Mountains, which makes the lake a truly magical place for bass fishing.

It is great to see the level of updates in the site, so kudos go to Terry Hollan!

On LakeforGuideTrips.com there is also more information on the subject but well, it is outdated and the last entries in the Lake Baccarac fishing report belong to 2007-2008.

Bass fishing has grown exponentially as a sport and outdoor activity, and its practice is becoming increasingly popular in many countries all over the World with great fishing locations, one of the top places to practice this sport is Mexico.

Mexico bass fishing locations are among the most interesting fishing locations in the World, and each year more and more people across America travel south of the border to take advantage of the great environment found there. Among the spots to practice this sport you can find lakes El Salto, Huites, Baccarac, Aguas Milpa, Comedero and Guerrero.

Lake El Salto, is perhaps the most famous location when we talk about Mexico bass fishing. Why? Because El Salto is the lake that produces the highest number of double-digit bass in the World! This lake is located north of Mazatlan, one of the most beautiful beach resorts in Mexico. This has to be your first choice if you want to take a picture with your big bass catch.

Other top Mexico bass fishing location is Lake Baccarac. This is a top choice if you want to fish on a great looking lake. This lake is surrounded by beautiful forested mountain peaks, and thanks to recent improvements in road conditions, the access is easy and fast. The lake can be accessed by car or by plane.

Lake Comedero is another preferred spot, also located near Mazatlan from 3-4 hours. Outfitters are hard to find in the lake simply because it is located in a hard to access area, they are found in nearby small villages. The water in this lake is clear and cool and is famous in Mexico bass fishing thanks to the great amount of black bass found in there. Here you will easily find bass from 8 lbs. to 12 lbs.

These are three of the top locations for bass fishing in Mexico. Does this means that the rest of locations are not good enough? Not at all, as a matter of fact we think all of them are great; it’s just that these three ones are preferred and popular by most anglers and travelers.

Mexico bass fishing has been very popular for a long time, mainly because Mexico offers a true paradise for everyone that loves the sport of bass fishing. It has plenty of lakes that offer a great variety of fishes. In order to fully explore this beautiful country and the most out of your trip, you can hire Mexico bass fishing guides!

If you are completely new to Mexico, a bass fishing guide can be extremely helpful when it comes to finding the best spots and getting to know more about the techniques and equipment used in your desired lake to ensure full success. Guides work in all fishing spots in Mexico: Lakes Huites, El Salto, Agua Milpa, Baccarac, Guerrero, Comedero, El Cuchillo, Mateos, Obregon, Novillo, El Cajon.

Online there are different sites offering Mexico bass fishing trips. If you are interested in acquiring a complete package, you would do good in asking if the package you are buying includes an experienced guide. Most of these packages are based on the lake of your choice, and it is better that way, especially if this is your first time visiting Mexico for bass fishing.

I think it is also better because, well, these guys have years of experience in the lakes, and that gives them a natural instinct for fishing that is impossible to get in your first trip.

How to choose capable guides? Well, the truth is that you’ll have to do a lot of asking before traveling if you want a truly good guide. When talking with the travel representative it would e good to tell them all you expect from a guide. On the other hand after traveling a few times to Mexico, I’ve always encountered guides that are extremely helpful and skillful when it comes to the sport of bass fishing.

The choice of a guide will also depend on the accommodation you choose, the great majority of Inns and Lodges have in-house guides that work full time for the clients staying in them. Information about individual guide services in Mexico is scarce, so you’ll have to make your inquiries in the lodge of your choice.

In the end, I think that choosing a Mexico bass fishing guide can be a very good idea during your first visits to a certain spot or lake. This way you’ll have a better experience during your first visit and will be able to squeeze every moment of your trip.
